Special Projects Field Supervisor/Project Manager

Position Overview

The Special Projects Field Supervisor / Project Manager leads Niagara’s complex irrigation projects from planning through completion, serving as the primary field authority for jobsite performance, quality, safety, and outcomes. This role directs crews, coordinates resources, ensures work meets company standards and project requirements, and applies advanced technical expertise to control costs, prevent rework, and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Own the planning, execution, and completion of assigned Special Projects while leading field crews and maintaining accountability for jobsite performance and quality.

  • Review project scope, plans, and irrigation designs prior to job start and proactively identify and resolve field issues.

  • Manage materials, labor, equipment, and material ordering to meet project schedules.

  • Implement corrective actions to minimize rework, callbacks, and cost overruns.

  • Track labor hours, scheduling, and basic job costing to support project budgets and resource planning.

Technical Execution & Quality

  • Working knowledge of 2-wire irrigation control systems, including installation, troubleshooting, decoder systems, and diagnostics.

  • Experience with large-diameter mainline and sub-mainline piping, including proper bedding, jointing, and pressure considerations.

  • Ability to interpret irrigation plans, zone layouts, valve configurations, and hydraulic intent.

  • Enforce Niagara installation standards and best practices in the field.

  • Verify proper layouts, coverage, system performance, and final installation quality.

  • Complete required documentation including photos, measurements, and as-built field notes.

  • Address deficiencies immediately and ensure corrective work is completed properly.

Cross-Department Coordination

  • Coordinate with Service, Residential, Office/Admin, and Operations teams to align overlapping scopes, share resources, and ensure smooth transitions between departments.

  • Communicate proactively to prevent duplicate or conflicting work and maintain clear cross-department responsibilities.

Communication & Accountability

  • Serve as Niagara’s primary field representative with builders, superintendents, and project stakeholders.

  • Communicate job status, risks, changes, and escalation needs clearly and promptly.

  • Operate within Niagara’s defined chain of command and decision-making structure.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce jobsite safety standards, regulations, and a strong culture of safety across all assigned projects.
    Address safety concerns immediately and report incidents per company policy.

Qualifications:

5 years of irrigation field experience with increasing levels of responsibility and project ownership.

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced experience with complex irrigation systems (multi-controller sites, high-zone-count installations, mixed-use or commercial developments).

  • Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and pressure-related issues on large systems, including pump systems and non-standard water sources.

  • Comfort using irrigation controllers, diagnostic tools, manufacturer platforms, and digital tools for field documentation, reporting, and project tracking.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a willingness to learn new systems and technologies.

Leadership & Communication

  • Experience developing foremen and field teams through training and performance feedback.

  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to maintain accountability without micromanagement.

  • Experience managing builder or commercial client relationships and resolving field conflicts professionally.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal and external coordination.

  • Proficient with email, written communication, and basic computer systems for daily coordination and reporting.

Project & Process Improvement

  • Ability to identify workflow inefficiencies and provide field insight into estimating, scheduling, planning, and cost-control improvements.

  • Strong organizational skills, including scheduling, note tracking, and task coordination.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $62,000 per year
